When Should You Replace Your Jeep JK 2 Door Rear Seat?

Reportedly any new vehicle seats will last for a maximum of six-year and in some cases, due to overuse or unavoidable circumstances, they might require replacement earlier than the usual or expected duration.

The simplest answer is, you should replace your Jeep Jk rear seat as soon as you notice any visible issue and feel major discomfort seating on it.

Besides that, there are some visible signs, and these signs will let you know when you need the replacement for your current rear seat-

  • If you notice any visible crack or rip on the rear seat covers, it means it is exposed to moisture, and the moisture can now easily enter into your rear seat’s foam padding to deteriorate it.
  • Also, note that you need to change or replace the vehicle’s rear seat immediately after any accident or crash. You should also replace your vehicle seat whenever the manufacturer recalls your current installed seat.
  • Another obvious sign can be the adjustment difficulty, where you might encounter difficulty in adjusting your Jeep’s rear seat position, or maybe it is not moving smoothly like it used to.
  • Another sign can be the hardness and back soreness, that one feels when the seat reaches its expiry condition.  In some cases, you might feel sunken while trying to move the seat behind or fail to lock the seat in a certain position.

Since seats of any Jeep JK or other vehicles ensure the ultimate comfort and safety of the passengers during the journey, so as soon the seats start deteriorating, it is hard not to notice the difference.

Jeep JK 2 Door Rear Seat Installation Guide:

Once you have finally decided to replace your current Jeep JK 2 door vehicle’s rear seat, it is time to learn what necessary tools you will need for the replacement task –

Required Tools-

  • New Rear Seat
  • Mechanical Tool Set
  • Socket Wrench/Screwdriver (if you do not have the tool kit box)

Now, thoroughly follow the instructions step by step-

Step 1 – First, you need to ensure that both of your Jeep Jk vehicle’s front seats are positioned all the way forward and the back support is tilted to the dash.

This step will ensure that you have plenty of room to loosen the bolts and finally take out the rear seat comfortably.

Step 2 – Now, you need to locate the four bolts that are holding the rear seat down in its place. After locating them use a socket wrench to loosen and remove them.

Remember to keep the bolts aside safely so that you can use them during the seat re-installation process.

Step 3 – Once you have successfully loosened the rear seat, look at the front bolts, where you will see two mounting brackets on both of them. So, now put these mounting brackets aside with the bolts too.

Step 4 – Next, you can either tilt the seat over and slide it out through the front door or simply lift it out the back. In both ways, you will need a helping hand to support you during the seat removal.

Step 5 – After removing the current rear seat safely, put it aside carefully and clean out the back of your Jeep. Make sure everything is cleaned properly and no sign of excess debris.

Step 6 – Now keep the new seat folded down and let someone help you lift it into your Jeep. While putting down the new seat, make sure that the seat buckles are not poking out and falling on the inside of the seat.

Step 7 – After that, lower one side of the seat to insert the bottom metal prong into the new seat’s bracket. Similarly, lower the seat’s other side evenly so that the hardware can click into the bracket accurately.

Step 8 – Once you have confirmed that the seat has been correctly installed, shove the newly installed seat lightly against the back to test it. If it is not moving, that means you have done it perfectly and pulled the seatback into the upright position.

Note: The replacement procedures are pretty simple, and one can easily do it at own home garage. But remember, if you are not familiar with such repairing tasks and have not done them yet, better to opt for professional help.

Are Jeep JK 2 Door Rear Seats Removable?

Yes, especially removing the rear or back seat of the newer models is easier. These newer Jeep JK 2 Door models even allow sliding the seat through the side door.

But that does not mean that removing the rear seats of the older Jeep Wrangler models is difficult.

With the older Jeep models, you just need someone’s help to lift the seat out of its original position and carry it out through the side door.

On the contrary, the newer models make the same task a little more comfortable and less exhausting.

Can I Put A Car Seat in My Jeep JK?

The technical answer is yes, you can if you wish to. But I will not recommend and encourage that. Especially if you own a 2 door Jeep Wrangler, I will encourage you not to try that.

You will not encounter any issue installing a normal car seat on the Jeep Wrangler 4 door models, but using a typical car seat on the 2 door models is very difficult, which you might not enjoy while going through that process.

In case, the top of your 2-door vehicle is off you might be able to insert the car seat a little more painless.

Otherwise, I will highly recommend doing that with a 4 door JK or visiting a professional workshop for the car seat installation.

Conclusion

Although the rear seats of the Jeep JK 2 Door models are pretty comfortable, stylish, and cozy, overtimes they can get damaged or deteriorate.

But to replace the rear seat of your Jeep, you also need to have precise knowledge of the estimated costing and other relevant details, which I have already explained in this article.
