Most Common Windshield Wiper Problems on Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is a heavy-duty vehicle with exceptional off-road capabilities. Its iconic and powerful body style is built to take on rugged terrain.  However, the wrangler’s windshield wiper, compared to other body parts, is susceptible to failure more easily because it combats directly with environmental hazards such as snow, fog, or rain.

And, if you do not have functioning wipers, you won’t be able to react to oncoming traffic or hazards, putting you and others in danger. So, proper windshield wiper maintenance and knowledge of the common windshield wiper problems are paramount to safe driving.

In this article, we’ll go over common Jeep Wrangler windshield wiper problems, why they happen, and how to fix them. Keep reading to find out more.

Most Common Windshield Wiper Problems On Jeep Wrangler:

Many things can go wrong with the Jeep Wrangler’s windshield wiper. Here, I’ll go over some of the most common problems, the reasons behind them, and practical solutions.

1. Blades can’t clean the window

Frequently, the wrangler’s blade is incapable of cleaning the windshield.  The defrost vents blow air from the heating and ventilation system onto the windscreen.

It is frequently reported that sometimes the vents of wranglers only blow into the center, allowing snow and ice to build upon the sides of the wipers and the blades. As a result, it cannot function properly and thus fails to clean the window.

The Fix:

If you are experiencing this problem, it is recommended that you replace your blades with the most recent aftermarket blades. Also, check out the nozzle. If the nozzle becomes clogged or frozen due to snow, clean it after driving in the snow.

2. Windshield wipers won’t shut off

It’s not uncommon for the wrangler’s wipers to refuse to turn off or run nonstop. There could be multiple reasons, including switch failure or bad wiring.

In any case, if the issue is severe, you may require the services of a professional who can conduct a thorough examination using a good scanning tool. However, if you’re lucky, you might be able to save money by following the technique described below.

The Fix:

This problem has a straightforward solution. You can do it yourself and solve the problem in just a few minutes.

  • Remove the negative terminal from your battery.
  • Then, to reset your computer, go inside the jeep and step on the brake.
  • Allow your Jeep to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Reconnecting the cable.

Windshield wipers are not working (the three most common reasons).

It is the most common event for wrangler owners. Wipers not working can be a huge hassle and might put you in danger. We have listed below some of the major reasons.

1. Wipers are not Working Due to Bushing

The most common cause of wiper failure is a torn or broken bushing inside the wiper. Wipers fail to move smoothly or do not even move if this happens.

This usually occurs when outside debris causes the system to become clogged, putting extra strain on the motor, and causing the part to break. Let’s see what you can do.

We’ll fix the passenger side wiper on a Jeep Wrangler that won’t move because of a broken bushing.

Step 1: To fix the problem, we’ll need to remove the entire panel just below the windshield.  To do so, remove the screws on this assembly with a Torx screwdriver. Remove the screws on the sides and in the middle above the motor.

Step 2: After removing the panel, remove the whole mechanical part that holds the motor in place (remove the bolts; there should be two bolts).

Step 3: Then, take apart the entire mechanical component to see if any bushings are present.

Step 4: Reassemble everything after replacing the bushing with the most recent aftermarket part. Once everything is reassembled, it is time to test it.

2. Wipers are not working Due to a Blown Fuse

The additional stress placed on the motor by the snow or debris could have blown a fuse. It’s possible that rust was causing lock up or that the springs had popped out.

Anyway, the problem can be solved by simply replacing the fuse. Check the manual for assistance if you’re having trouble identifying the fuse box and pinpointing the exact fuse.

3. Wipers are not working Due to Motor problems ( Replacing Motor With four easy steps)

Like many other cars, the Jeep Wrangler has a small electric windshield wiper motor built into the windshield frame. When your windshield wipers stop working, your motor may have failed.

The problem can be solved more reliably by replacing the old motor. With the right tools, you can complete the task on your own. There are four major steps in the task.

Step One: The first step is to disconnect the wiper motor from the windshield frame.

Step Two: Separate the Wiper Motor from the Wiper Linkage.

Step Three: Reconnect the wiper motor to the linkage.

Step Four: Remounting the wiper motor is the final step.

How To Maintain Jeep Wrangler Windshield Wiper?

Usually, most owners don’t give much thought to this part of the vehicle. However, the windshield wiper also deserves regular maintenance like every other part. By taking proper care of it, you can extend the life of your windshield and improve visibility. Here are some suggestions.

Keep It Clean:

Keep the windshield clean after operating on a speck of dust.  Wiper blades wire more quickly if they wipe across unclean or dirty glass.

Replace Blades:

Replace the blades at least twice a year. Wiper blades are usually made to last 6 to 12 months.

When not in use, lift the wiper:

Lift up the wiper blades when the vehicle is unused for more than a week.

Turn on the defroster First:

When the weather is foggy or snowy, start with the defroster and scrape any snow or ice off the windshield before using the wiper.

Never Wipe a Dry Surface:

Avoid using the wiper on a dry surface. It is designed to be used when the windshield is wet, and operating them on a dry surface causes the wipers to wire prematurely.

Conclusion

Wrangler windshield wipers can break for various reasons, but they are relatively simple to repair. Most of them can be fixed by yourself, but some require professional assistance.

In this article, we tried to provide practical solutions to the most common windshield wiper problems on the Jeep Wrangler.
