Cub Cadet introduced their Challenger UTV series in early 2015, and one of the most popular UTV models from the Challenger series is the 2016 realized Challenger 700 model.
The Cub Cadet Challenger 700 UTV is known as well-balanced and equipped to provide a better platform for riders to have the ultimate fun on the road.
Yet, consumers or riders can accidentally encounter some common troubleshooting issue with any Challenger 700 vehicle at some point.
So, in this very article, I have decided to address the 5 most common problem that one user might experience with the Challenger 700 vehicle-
Common Problems of the Cub Cadet Challenger 700:
1. Intermittent Problem
According to several users, sometimes they notice the intermittent issue on their Challenger 700 UTV.
One Challenger 700 user mentioned that sometimes his UTV engine turns over like usual but does not start. He further explained that initially, this issue was not there, and over time it started.
Another thing he noticed was that when the engine cranks and starts normally, he can hear the fuel pump running sound before the starter engages, especially when the key is turned on.
But when the engine gives hard time and does not start, he cannot hear the electric fuel pump running sound.
The initial guess will be the relay located inside the fuel pump system to cause the intermittent issue.
Besides that, such intermittent problems might also arise due to any loose connection. A loose connection makes a momentary contact which can cause the potential intermittent issue.
Another possible reason behind this sudden occurrence can be a loose, damaged or broken ignition switch.
The best way to solve the problem is to thoroughly investigate all the mentioned parts and areas to confirm which part is causing the issue and fix it.
2. Fails To Move, Starts Idling & Eventually Dies
Some users even mentioned about Challenger 700 vehicle’s failure to move and idling issue.
One particular Challenger 700 owner has claimed that his Challenger was running perfectly fine until one day he noticed that out of the blue, the engine started to idle for almost 10 seconds or so and eventually died.
He further explained that when this occurrence happens, the engine fails to stay in operating condition like usual, and it repeatedly idles and dies.
This problem can possibly occur due to an excessive amount of corrosion or debris in the fuel line, tank, or filter. Corrosion and debris can extremely damage any of those areas by clogging them.
It could also be because of an ignition failure or a blocked transmission bypass.
While you are checking the transmission, do not forget to also check on the belt and make sure that the belt’s tension spring is in place and the belt connection is not loose.
If you are still enabled to figure out the main culprit, the best alternative solution is to contact the nearest dealer or service center to fix it before the problem turns worse.
3. Reverse Problem
According to several user forums reports, few consumers claimed that they encountered no reverse backup issue with their Challenger 700 models.
One of them mentioned that while leaving his place his father had trouble getting his 700vehicle in reverse. He also explained that his father’s UTV would not go in reverse or neutral.
To investigate the issue, he unhooked the linkage and put a small wrench where he removed the linkage. He further shared that although he could get high, low, and neutral, he still could not find the reverse.
Another Challenger 700 UTV owner claimed that his UTV does not back up in reverse and when he steps on the gas, his vehicle just jerks.
He also noticed that it would not move when stepped on the gas. But when on hard level ground, his UTV simply backs up fine.
This problem possibly occurs when your drive belt has any issue such as loose connection, broken or corroded.
If the drive belt is the main culprit, all you have to do is replace it with a new one.
4. Clutch Problem
Another most common complaint from several Challenger 700 users is the clutch issue, where they even mentioned their disappointment to change the clutch so frequently.
One user claimed that he had to change the clutch only after 200 miles of operation
Another user explained his disappointment with his new 700 UTV by sharing his experience like just after 60 hours of use he had to replace the clutch and within less than 100 hours, he had to even replace the throttle body 4 times.
Furthermore, he shared that after replacing those, the problem still remains the same and he had to replace the seat, doughnut gasket, and muffler to fix the entire problem.
However, the initial clutch and throttle issue was caused by the factory assembling malfunction, which also lead to experiencing other related troubles.
5. Recall Due To Faulty Parking Brake & Service Brake
After getting several complaints from the owners of 2015 released Cub Cadet Challenger 500 and 700 models, the company took their time and thoroughly investigated before declaring the actual error.
On 29th April 2016, the Cub Cadet authority officially recalled approximately 1300 models of the 2015 Challenger 500 and 700 UTV models to ensure better user safety.
The company mentioned that those affected models are assembled with weak or faulty parking brakes and can potentially cause a crash hazard.
On 6th July 2017, the company again recalled 4000 Challenger UTV models released in 2016 after receiving 80 consumer complaint reports.
This time Cub Cadet claimed that those affected UTV models might have air in the brake system, which potentially might cause the brake failure.
However, the good news is that there is no report of actual injury or damage caused by those affected UTVs.
What Majority of the Users Feel About Cub Cadet Challenger 700?
Although the Challenger series from Cub Cadet is widely popular, I discovered mixed reviews about the Challenger 700 UTVs while going through several user forums, review articles, and blogs.
I found that a group of consumers clearly expressed that they were really satisfied with the design and built-up qualities of these UTV models. They even mentioned
these Cub Cadet UTV series come with more standard features and tools than most of the other available models on the market. Some were even more impressed because these UTV models also come with many additional features and accessories.
Besides all these, Challenger 700 series do not even cost a higher price like most other competitors’ vehicles.
However, another group of customers was furious because of the fact that they had to replace the clutch and some other parts quite a few times due to mechanical error on Challenger 700 models.
Final Thoughts
There is no doubt that just like any other top-ranked or popular utility vehicle on the market, Cub Cadet Challenger 700 UTVs also have their fair share of downsides or limitations. However, the special and additional features that these UTVs come with are worth the money and try.
