In the world of Canadian Truck Campers and Travel Trailers, few names are more well known than Bigfoot, but is the company still making products? Is Bigfoot RV still in business?
Bigfoot RV is still in business, despite being temporarily shut down in 2008. The company is now over 40 years old, but they are still manufacturing brand new Truck Campers and Travel Trailers, based on the original designs.
This article will tell you everything you need to know about Bigfoot RV as a company, and what the business is up to today so that you can be fully up-to-date on this iconic camping vehicle brand.
Did Bigfoot RV Go Out Of Business?
In 2008, many RV and camping fans were saddened, and slightly shocked, by the news that Bigfoot RV would be going out of business. During the recession, many different RV, truck, and camper van manufacturers had to shut down, but Bigfoot was perhaps the most surprising loss of them all.
Due to anxieties that banks were having at the time about surviving the financial crisis, and repurchase agreements that manufacturers were forced to sign, the owners of the company decided they had to close the doors. At the time, even the management team was shaken by the sudden news.
Fortunately for the brand and customers alike, this wasn’t to be the end of the company.
When Did Bigfoot RV Come Back Into Business?
Although everything seemed to have fallen apart for the company, things were actually far from over.
The previous Operations Manager, Grant Bilodeau, managed to get hold of the Bigfoot name and many of the company’s most important assets. He acquired the fiberglass molds for their various vehicles and part of the original facility – he was even able to re-hire much of the old production team.
In 2010, Bigfoot RV was brought back to life. In many ways, the team managed to retain much of what had made the company so successful in the first place, as well as newfound confidence in their ability to expand and develop.
How Has Bigfoot RV Changed Since Re-Opening?
First, Grant re-established many of the team members who had been at Bigfoot RV before the shutdown. With a lot of experience working at the company, and and extensive knowledge of fiberglass rv shell production, they were able to hit the ground running.
The main aim of the company after re-opening was to focus on quality and high standards. It took time for the facility to be operational again so they started with a limited selection of their 2500-series truck campers.
Sales began slowly, at select dealers in Western Canada, first before building up to now sell all across North America.
Does Bigfoot Still Make the Same Truck Campers and Trailers?
Bigfoot fans will be happy to hear that the people at Bigfoot RV are still making the same Truck Campers and Travel Trailers that made the company famous in the first place. Even the production line has mostly been kept the same.
There have been many innovations to these classic designs over the years since Bigfoot’s re-opening. The materials and the designs were subtly adjusted at first, to improve quality, but bigger changes and upgrades have since followed.
Bigfoot Truck Campers and Travel Trailers are now fitted with all kinds of modern conveniences, from solar panels to LED lighting and even optional LCD TVs.
Where Are Bigfoot RVs Made Now?
Bigfoot RVs are still made on the original site in Armstrong, British Colombia, Canada. The 85,000 square-foot complex was reclaimed by Grant Bilodeau after the company shut down and all of their trailers and campers are still being built there to this day.
What Truck Campers and Travel Trailers Does Bigfoot Make?
The Bigfoot campers and trailers are still highly recognizable, and their product line hasn’t changed too much in the last 40 years.
Campers
The Truck Campers that Bigfoot make are perhaps their most iconic products. These innovative designs are built to attach to a truck bed, converting your vehicle into a home on the move.
1500-Series
The 1500-Series Truck Campers are slightly more lightweight. There are both shortbox and longbox options at either 8.2 or 9.5 feet in length.
These campers use 1” high-density EPS insulation to make them lighter, they do not have a basement, and they have a less powerful furnace (16,000 BTU) than the 2500-series.
2500-Series
The 2500-Series is the heavier Truck Camper that Bigfoot makes. This model has 1.5” high-density insulation and a 30,000 BTU furnace. There are also a few more options if you go for this model.
You can get the 2500-Series in shortbox and longbox as well, but there are four models to choose from: 9.4, 9.6, 10.4, and 10.6E.
Travel Trailers
All of the Travel Trailers that Bigfoot make are part of their 2500-Series, but there are three very different options to choose from.
- B17FB: The smallest Travel Trailer that Bigfoot makes, although still fitted with the same two-piece fibreglass exterior and high-density insulation as the other models.
- B21: This model is the middle ground option, with a bit of extra space for the interior and two floorplan options.
- B25: The B25 is the largest Travel Trailer that Bigfoot offers, and it has three different floorplans to choose from.
